Wood frogs

On Saturday, wood frogs, one of the signs that spring is upon us, could be observed milling about in vernal pools in the tiny hamlet of Daguscahonda, located midway between Ridgway and St. Marys. Amazingly, the frogs survive winter by freezing up to 60 percent of their body, stopping their heart and lungs, and then thawing out in the spring.
