GAME: The game is afoot!
It’s taken us awhile to get all the details, but we’re finally able to let the proverbial cat out of the bag. We have some insider information on the potholes dotting the roads through the region, and boy were we surprised.
These road craters are more than just an inconvenience for drivers; they are markers in an aerial game for drones!
Nate Bottorf of Aerial Imaging Services in Bradford tells us that it’s sort of like a scavenger hunt. Prizes are given to registered drone owners when they find a certain number of potholes on roads in a specified region. The rules are pretty specific and require some specialized capabilities for the drones.
Players have to find some potholes measuring between 6 to 8 inches in depth, some between 4 and 6 inches in depth, and others that are mere beginners at 3 inches or less. That’s not all, though, because the width of the potholes comes into play, too.
And they can’t all be on the same road.
Since Nate is based in McKean County, he has a head start on the competition. He’s hopeful that Bradford’s winters will help him snag a prize.
It’s only when the game is over that the real road repairs will begin.
Good luck, Nate. We’re glad our washboard roads can help more than just the car repair men.
SPACE: We love to bring our readers stories of local folks making good.
Here’s one from Johnsonburg by way of New York City. Michael Hinman, editor of The Riverdale Press in the Bronx, has been a long-time fan of Star Trek.
And he let us in on a Hollywood secret — he’s going to be a Klingon in the next Star Trek film! He isn’t allowed to give us any details yet, and he hasn’t shared with us the ingredients in Romulan ale.
So keep your eyes peeled and see if you can recognize him in the background. We’ll be watching!
