WORDS: Two longtime friends of RTS have founded a word group for fellow enthusiasts.
Frances Wolfe Haight from Kane has been writing since age 10, and Donald Neal from Bradford wrote his first poem at age 15.
The two have formed a group, the first meeting of which will be at 10 a.m. April 13 at Friends Memorial Library in Kane.
The group “Celebrating Our Words” has some simple rules: share something original to read or sing at each meeting, bring a different piece to share at each meeting, and participants must be over the age of 16.
The sessions will be a time of sharing poetry, essays, short stories, songs, devotionals or selections from larger works. All selections are to be written by the participant.
If there are people who are not writers but would like to listen to others’ creations, they are also invited to come and be part of the audience.
Donald wrote a poem titled “Friends Memorial Library” after his first visit there. A portion of the poem states “As I walked into the library, A place I had never been before. I thought everyone who used the library, was smart and would be a bore.” He goes on to describe what he actually saw happening at the library and ends with “If you want the answer to any question you have, You will find it at your public library.”
He and Frances will be at the meeting on April 13, eager to share their work and show that the library is not a bore but is full of answers to many questions.
The library is located on Chase Street in Kane and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WISE: For our brand-loyal readers, Ellie Lathrop’s potato chip was not, as we were so foolhardy to write in Saturday’s column, a Lay’s brand chip. No, she discovered the “perfect cross” in a Wise brand chip.
