A Port Allegany man is incarcerated on allegations he broke into a neighbor’s house over the weekend and took several items.
James J. Jones, 33, of 66 S. Main St., was arraigned before District Judge William Todd on charges of burglary, a first-degree felony; criminal trespassing, a second-degree felony; theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, both first-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, on Saturday, Port Allegany Police were called to 66 ½ S. Main St., downstairs apartment, for a burglary. The alleged victim told police he was arriving home about 8 p.m. Saturday, when he saw Jones run from the apartment door. Jones jumped into his pick-up truck and sped away.
The tenant saw that his window was broken and the door handle was busted, damaged to the point that the door had to be kicked open. Among the missing items were three laptops, legal paperwork, medications and a box of family photos, the complaint stated.
Police located Jones at a residence in Turtlepoint and took him into custody.
Jones is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in McKean County Court on Thursday.
