SMETHPORT — The McKean County commissioners, meeting Tuesday morning in a special session, approved a service provider agreement with The Devereaux Advanced Behavioral Health for the Department of Human Services.
One of the nation’s largest and most highly advanced behavioral healthcare organizations, The Devereaux Foundation is a non-profit provider of behavioral healthcare, whose many services include group homes, foster care and supported living.
Representing the Department of Human Services were Shawn McAulay, assistant director of the McKean County Children and Youth Services, and Amanda Reese, director of Children’s Resources, who explained the need for this contract, which is effective immediately and lasts for one year.
The previous contract had expired after not being used for several years, according to the DHS officials.
“This contract was needed for the placement of a child in CYS custody,” McAulay noted. “Without this contract, if placement is to occur, the county would be responsible for the cost without state reimbursement. From now on, such fees can be reimbursed on an 80 percent basis from the state, with the county responsible for the remaining 20 percent.”
In another vote, Commissioners Cliff Lane, who conducted the meeting, and Carol Duffy approved a motion authorizing the county to enter an agreement with Dr. Kurt Laemmer, DMD, for providing dental services to the inmates at the McKean County Jail.
This contract is to remain in force indefinitely unless terminated by either party upon 60 days written notice.
