A preliminary for a Bradford man accused of assaulting an officer was held in absentia — or without the man present — before District Judge Dominic Cercone on Wednesday.
Charges in one case against Chad C. Reed, 27, of 75 Jefferson St., were bound to McKean County Court, while Cercone dismissed charges in a second case.
Reed will now face in county court charges of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, and resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor.
In the dismissed case, Reed had been charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor, and summary harassment.
According to the criminal complaint, the aggravated assault case came from an alleged incident at 8:24 p.m. Jan. 25. Bradford City Police were called to help McKean County adult probation officers locate Reed, who was reportedly spotted looking out an upstairs window at 75 Jefferson St.
Law enforcement officers entered the residence and found Reed locked in a bathroom, refusing to come out, the complaint stated.
According to court records, an officer opened the door, and Reed attacked him, charging and swinging his fists wildly. An officer deployed a Taser on Reed, then a second officer did the same; both slowed Reed but did not stop him. After a short struggle, officers were able to handcuff Reed.
Reed was incarcerated Jan. 25 on the aggravated assault case, but he posted bail of $25,000 on Feb. 1, court records indicate.
