The Southwestern High School coaching staff, headed by former NFLer Jehuu Caulcrick, will be in charge of the New York team for the 46th annual Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic.
The Charities Classic, founded by Don Raabe, is a football game which matches graduated senior stars from each side of the New York-Pennsylvania border.
New York leads the series 22-21-2 but Pennsylvania has won the last three games including a 37-22 decision this past August.
Game 46 is set for the night of Aug. 3 at Bradford’s Parkway Field and proceeds benefit area charities. In the first 45 renewals, local causes have received nearly $1.7 million.
Caulcrick, heading into his fifth year at Southwestern, played his college football at Michigan State then five years as a pro with the N.Y. Jets, Tampa Bay, San Francisco and Buffalo.
Born in Liberia, Caulcrick moved to Findley Lake, N.Y. at age 9. He learned football while attending Clymer Central School playing for coach Howard McMullen. He led his team to four straight Section 6 Class D championships and four consecutive appearances in the NYS final four, including a berth in 1999’s Class D championship game.
He accumulated 100 career touchdowns and is the all-time rushing leader with 6,559 career yards. As a junior, he gained 1,670 yards on 205 carries and scored 33 TDs. As a senior, he was named Western New York Player of the Year and rushed for 2,161 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Caulcrick was named Class D Player of the Year by the New York State Sportswriters Association and Player of the Year by the Buffalo News and the Jamestown Post-Journal. He was a three-time All-State and All-Western New York selection and was also named to PrepStar’s All-Eastern Team. Going into college, Superprep rated him the second- best fullback in the nation while Rival.com ranked him fifth-best.
Four of Caulcrick’s assistants will be on his staff.
Aaron Emley, a high school special education teacher, has eight years of coaching experience as an assistant at Southwestern and is currently the defensive coordinator. John Kinder, an academic advisor at Southwestern, is a four-year assistant coaching the quarterbacks and wide receivers.
Mark Arnold, a physical education teacher, is Southwestern’s wrestling coach and is in his fifth year coaching the offensive and defensive lines.
Jake Burkholder, a second fourth-year assistant, is completing his degree at Fredonia pursuing social studies and adolescence education. At Southwestern he’s the girls JV basketball coach and works with the wide receivers and defensive backs.
