MARCH: Did you know that March is National Umbrella Month?
According to almanac.com, here are some more wacky things to celebrate this month:
Sunday is “What if cats and dogs had opposable thumbs day?”
From the website daysoftheyear.com: “Today, it’s time to appreciate the skills that your pet has, and maybe the skills that she doesn’t have! If your cat had opposable thumbs, would he use it to accomplish dexterous tasks? Would he build fires? Would he start cooking his own food? Would he start using the things that he’s collected around the house to make complex traps to catch mice and rats? Or would he just keep doing much of the same as he does now — sleeping, occasionally making a mess and expecting you to feed him when he wants?
“If dogs had opposable thumbs, would they abuse their tin opener privileges? Or would they keep up the guise of man’s best friend by helping out around the house, doing the dishes and the hoovering?”
March 5 is Cheese Doodle Day; March 12 is Plant a Flower Day; March 19 is Chocolate Caramel Day.
The second Saturday of March, this year March 9th, is International Fanny Pack Day. It may sound silly, but it is actually connected to feeding the hungry. Strange, but true. It all started with a man who received a fanny pack and a fruitcake at a Christmas party. When a homeless man teased him about the fanny pack, he gave the man the fruitcake. A movement was born.
March 16 is National Panda Day. The day is set aside to spread the word about the beloved bears, and about protecting and restoring their natural habitat.
Another day to mark in this month is March 8, International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
