TNS: We love when readers ask questions about something in the paper. It’s so satisfying to know that people are reading closely enough to notice a change.
Recently, a few readers have inquired as to the meaning of the letters “TNS” on some stories.
Readers are used to seeing AP — Associated Press. We’re glad to fill you in on the addition.
TNS stands for Tribune News Service, which is another wire service in use by The Era.
TNS allows us to choose more of a variety of Pennsylvania news for our readers. Along with our AP coverage of Pennsylvania’s government, we now offer TNS coverage from newspapers across the state. A few examples — we’ve been able to share news from Presque Isle through the Erie Times News, and a more intimate look into those impacted by the Tree of Life shooting in Squirrel Hill through the Tribune-Review in Greensburg.
Some of our sports news, as well as our national and international news, is coming from Tribune News Service, too.
Also, the service has allowed us to expand our editorial selections for our opinion page.
We like it, and we hope you do too.
SPRING: Diane Rhodes of Wilcox called us on Thursday with an encouraging report.
“We have a Bradford pear tree, and we had robins, starlings and about a dozen and a half cedar waxwings in that tree today. My husband found a live caterpillar on top of the snow this morning. Maybe the groundhog was right.”
On Thursday afternoon, Diane said she still had several cedar waxwings in the tree.
TODAY: On our Bradford Landmark Society calendar, today’s date is the 90th anniversary of the formal opening of the Emery Hotel.
Grace Emery built the hotel in 1929 as a memorial to her father, the late Lewis Emery Jr.
The hotel is now Emery Towers, a 101-room apartment complex still standing at the head of Main Street.
