For some residents of the area, the names and faces behind the badge of a local law enforcement officer are well known. Questions get answered and concerns set to rest by a familiar face. For others, the police are an entity rather than friends and neighbors.
The opportunity to talk to an officer in person does not always present itself. For anyone interested in hearing from the police chief himself, the time to do so is this weekend.
Police Chief Chris Lucco will present a program on various topics related to the Bradford City Police Department at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The program is in part an event meant to strengthen the community and police connection, providing insight into the world of the police and also helping to set minds at ease about current topics of concern.
“The relationship between the community and law enforcement is so important to us!” Lucco said. “Without public support, our job would be so much more difficult.”
The event will answer common questions, varying from a discussion of a typical day for a Bradford City police officer to the severity of the drug situation in Bradford. Meanwhile, other topics on the agenda include recent internet and phone scams and the right way to react when seeing police lights and hearing a siren.
“I hope to educate the audience on current trends in financial scams and fraud and on the current drug trends and what families should look for — particularly how to find assistance for addicted loved ones,” said Lucco when asked his goals for the event. “I plan to explain what and how to use our crimewatch platform and other social media platforms, as well as how citizens can interact and share information about criminal activity with us.”
The afternoon discussion is geared toward an adult audience, with a powerpoint presentation slated and a question and answer session with the audience following.
For those who are interested but aren’t sure about attending, Lucco had this to say,
“I think that there will be a little bit of information on multiple topics; we did this intentionally to maintain interest and to appeal to different segments of our community. I hope to see a good turn out.
