SHINGLEHOUSE — Good players just find a way to score points and that’s what Coudersport’s Sarah Chambers and Shaelyn Black did Thursday night.
Bottled up early in the first half, the duo came back strong in the final two periods to lead the second-seeded Lady Falcons to a 49-21 victory over Northern Potter in their girls District 9 Class A quarterfinal round playoff game at Oswayo Valley High School.
“Northern Potter came out and played hard,” said Coudy coach Bob Tingley. “Their game plan was to keep Chambers and Black in check and they did that. They (Chambers and Black) had only four points in the first half.
“At halftime we made some adjustments and they (Chambers and Black) came back in the second half and finished with 16 points each,” he added.
NoPo came into the game with an 11-11 record and hung with the favored Lady Falcons trailing 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. Coudy pushed its lead to 21-11 at the half and then took total control in the final 16 minutes of play.
“We got a nice contribution from Mikayla Gunn,” Tingley pointed out. Gunn finished with nine points.
The win improved the Lady Falcons to 18-4 on the season and sends them into the semifinals next week against North Clarion at a date and time to be announced
Northern Potter finishes the season 11-12 and was led by Courtney Martin with 11 points.
