GIRLS
Class A first round
Otto-Eldred 36, Cameron County 32
ST. MARYS — Otto-Eldred used a 13-point fourth quarter to come from behind and claim a 36-32 victory over Cameron County in the first round of girls’ Class A playoff basketball action Tuesday.
The Lady Terrors got off to a slow start, trailing 10-4 at the end of the first and 17-15 at the half. Cameron County opened their lead to four points by the end of third quarter, at 27-23. However, Otto-Eldred got a second wind in the fourth quarter and worked their way to the 36-32 victory.
Leading the O-E offense were Haylee Frederick with nine points, Jade Spinney with eight points and Autumn Smith with seven tallies. Smith also had eight rebounds for the winners.
“My kids fought for everything tonight. Cameron County is a well-coached team with some really good players. We were disciplined on defense, we rebounded well and scored just enough down the stretch to come away with the win,” said Shawn Gray, Otto-Eldred coach. “Our upperclassmen did a great job of leading the way, our younger kids contributed in some crucial spots. Now it gets a little tougher.”
Leading Cameron County offensively were Kaelee Bresslin and Reggie Goodrow, each with eight points.
Otto-Eldred will face-off with Johnsonburg on Friday.
