Eldred Borough firefighters battled a truck fire that occurred overnight between Monday and Tuesday.
No one was injured, said Eldred Fire Chief Kevin Cummings.
He said state police were brought in to investigate. Police have not released a cause of the blaze as of press time.
According to Cummings, the fire department was dispatched at 11:54 p.m. Monday to a pick-up truck fire under the Kendall Bridge. Six firefighters and an engine and tanker went to the scene. While the fire was out within 20 minutes after they got there, the call was the start of a very long night for the volunteer firefighters.
However, they remained to assist state police for about three more hours.
“(State police) were called and took control of the scene,” Cummings said. “We were just assisting them with our lights until we got transferred to go to Portville.”
He explained that at 3:10 a.m., the Eldred Borough Fire Department was transferred to Portville, N.Y., to standby for another emergency.
Early Tuesday morning, Portville was among several fire departments that were called to assist with a trailer fire in Allegany, N.Y.
