ST. MARYS — Bradford had the advantage after the first quarter, but the Lady Owls fell to Elk Catholic 52-38 Wednesday in District 9 girls basketball Wednesday.
Bradford had a two-point lead, 9-7, at the end of the first quarter. From there, Elk Catholic jumped out to a 24-17 lead at the half and maintained that through the rest of the game to win 52-38.
Keying Elk Catholic were Taylor Newton with 14 points and Sadie VanAlstine with 12.
Erika Marshall and Makenzee Maley paced the offense for the Lady Owls, with 14 points and 13 tallies, respectively.
“Makenzee Maley shot the ball extremely well tonight. She had probably her high point total for the year, which was good to see. I’m proud of her for that,” said Bob Hannon, Bradford coach. “We ran into a very hot shooting team. They shot extremely well tonight, and I can’t fault them for how well they played.
“Our kids played hard. We had a nice contribution from the younger kids; Mia Babcock and Tori Keane came in and played some solid defense for us. The younger kids got experience, and that is good for them.”
Bradford, now 6-14 on the season, will host undefeated Punxsutawney Friday.
