A child endangerment case against a Bradford man was bound to McKean County Court Wednesday at a hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Walter J. Gutshall Jr., 36, of 102 Congress St., Apt. 5, is charged with a single count of endangering the welfare of a child, a third-degree felony.
According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 28, Gutshall smoked marijuana in front of Amila R. Sprague, 32, and a 3-year-old child; then, Sprague left the child in Gutshall’s care for a couple of hours while she went to run an errand.
She returned to find the apartment door open, the child gone and Gutshall asleep, court records indicated. The child was found in the downstairs foyer with a neighbor.
Police were called to the home later that day after Gutshall allegedly intentionally overdosed; he had to be taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Sprague, who faces the same criminal charge, had a preliminary hearing Jan. 30 and is scheduled to appear in McKean County Court April 4.
Both are free on unsecured bail.
