Bradford City may be looking for pension plan services.
During a brief pension board meeting Tuesday, Councilman Brad Mangel recommended a request for proposal (RFP) to solicit potential pension plan services from other firms. He noted it has been 15 years since the last RFP.
In the past, city officials have mentioned the cost of pension plans as one of its big expenses. They have struggled in recent years to cut costs wherever they can to try to keep from raising taxes.
Mangel explained that the officials, “as caretakers of the pension fund,” are responsible for maintaining the fund in the most economical way.
Mayor Tom Riel noted that while it has been 15 years since a formal RFP, they have held work sessions where they’ve entertained other interested companies. He said other offers were deemed to either be less economical or about the same.
Pension board was followed by a brief regular council meeting.
Council appointed Peter Palumbo to fill the unexpired term of Joe Frisina on the Bradford Zoning Board. The term expires January 2021.
Also, they authorized the execution of a grant contract for 2018 Community Development Block Grant Program funding. On Jan. 31, the city received approval for a $296,249 Entitlement Grant from the program.
Fire Chief Eric Taylor was also given permission to advertise for testing to establish a new eligibility list for firefighter/paramedic and firefighter EMT for the City of Bradford Fire and Ambulance Department.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 26.
