It was a second quarter Saturday that the Bradford boys basketball team would rather soon forget.
Leading by 10 after the first, Warren outscored the Owls 16-3 in the second frame and then pulled away in the second half to defeat Bradford 61-49.
Jake Kupchella led Warren with 15 points, Caleb Ei added 14 and Devin McMeans scored 12, all on his four three-pointers.
Tyler Gigliotti paced the Owls with 21 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
“The second quarter kind of got us tonight,” Bradford coach Brian Hobbs said. “We gave up all four of McMeans’ three-pointers and we only scored three points there.
“They were able to chip away at our lead and went up three at halftime. Then they started to pull away in the third quarter and we had to press and scramble and they found some guys in transition for easy baskets.”
Following his Owls’ third consecutive loss, Hobbs is hoping that his team can rally in time for the postseason — especially on the defensive end.
“Quite honestly, I think we are just not trusting each other defensively,” he said. “We are giving up too much on the perimeter because we are trying to help off guys and just not playing together. It’s disappointing to not have faith in each other at this point in the season.”
Next up, the Owls will try to play spoiler to Elk County Catholic on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders have a perfect 21-0 mark coming into the game, with the Owls the last challenger left on the schedule.
Bradford lost to ECC 55-31 in St. Marys earlier this season.
“Hopefully (the losses) create some motivation to get out of this funk, and there is no better time than Tuesday,” Hobbs said.
“It is a game we always get up for. They will be ready to go as far as intensity and energy. The third part is the execution and that’s what makes the difference in the game.”
