Two Elk County men are facing charges following a traffic stop Feb. 1 in the City of St. Marys in which police allegedly seized about $5,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine and marijuana, along with money, a weapon and drug paraphernalia.
Matthew Reeves, 23, of Johnsonburg, and Garrett Frederoski, 25, of St. Marys, are both facing charges from the stop.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the Reeves case, at 10 p.m. Feb. 1, two St. Marys City Police officers were on duty in the area of Lawrence Street when they noticed a car parked outside of a business. An officer approached the passenger side of the car, and Frederoski rolled the window down. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the car, and both officers searched the car.
Police report they found 32 grams of suspected crystal meth, individual empty bags for packaging, a scale, approximately 44 grams of suspected marijuana and assorted paraphernalia inside a bag identified as allegedly belonging to Reeves. Also inside the bag was a 15-inch knife with metal knuckles, the criminal complaint stated.
During an interview with police, Reeves allegedly said he sells meth, that he had spent his savings on the drug and that he sells enough to support his own addiction, the complaint stated.
When police asked him what they would find on his phone, Reeves said his phone would show “people hitting him up for weed,” the complaint stated.
St. Marys Police said both Reeves and Frederoski were placed in Elk County Jail on violations of probation and parole.
Reeves is charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver, felonies; possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, two counts each of possession of drug paraphernalia and of intent to deliver drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors; one count of possession of an offensive weapon, a first-degree misdemeanor; and criminal use of a communication facility, a third-degree felony.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Mark Jacob at 9:30 a.m. March 19.
