KANE — Not often can a team withstand giving up 12 3-pointers and come out on the winning end.
But Kane did just that Wednesday night, sinking some key foul shots late and edging Port Allegany 65-59 for a non-league victory.
Jordan Card sank five 3-pointers for a career-high 26 points for the Gators (6-13), while Howie Stuckey made seven from beyond the arc to finish with 25, but Port Allegany couldn’t get enough stops late on the defensive end.
“We were tied or down by one late, but we missed a couple shots and they made a couple,” Port Allegany coach Jeff Stuckey explained. “Then we had to foul and Chad (Greville) ended up making two free throws and we basically had to foul to stop the clock from there.”
Alex Rezzelle led Kane (6-12) with 20 points, and Greville added 19.
Port Allegany led by one point both at the end of the first quarter and halftime.
“It was a back-and-forth game that was very physical,” Stuckey said of the 38 total fouls. “There were lots of chances for everybody.”
Port Allegany is back on the road tonight at Otto-Eldred.
