DUBOIS — After a double overtime loss at Bradford earlier this season, DuBois looked hungry for revenge early and often against the Owls Tuesday.
The Beavers (13-5, 4-3) jumped out to a 24-12 halftime advantage and Dubois defeated the Owls 58-28.
Chase Husted scored 23 points and Jonathan Cruz added 11; Tyler Gigliotti was Bradford’s (9-8, 2-4) leading scorer with just nine points.
“We let their big guy get loose a little bit tonight, he was able to have 23 tonight; we held him to 10 at our place,” Bradford coach Brian Hobbs said.
DuBois also sank seven 3-pointers in the game, including three from Cruz.
“We lost guys on the perimeter as well,” Hobbs said. “Defensively, we didn’t do a very good job. They doubled us up in rebounds…they were 37-19 on the board.”
“Offensively was even worse. We shot 28 percent overall. We just didn’t bring the energy we needed for that game tonight.”
The Owls made just 12 field goals in the game, and did not score over 10 points in any quarter.
With just five games left on the schedule, each game picks up importance for Bradford as they make a push for the District 9 playoffs.
“That makes the playoffs kind of depend on the rest of the season…if we can string together four of the next five, we can get the one-seed,” Hobbs said.
Bradford returns to action Friday as they host Brookville, followed by a back-to-back matchup with Warren on Saturday, also home.

Austin 65, Port Allegany 40
PORT ALLEGANY — Visiting Austin buried six of its eight 3-point field goals in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 65-40 victory over Port Allegany in North Tier League basketball action Tuesday.
The Gators trailed by only two at halftime, 25-23, but the Panthers got hot and Port didn’t have the firepower to match them.
“We hung in the game for three quarters, but they got hot in the fourth quarter with six of their three-pointers and that sealed the deal,” said Port coach Jeff Stuckey.
Blake Burgett led the Austin three-point attack with four in the game on the way to 16 points. Teammates Jackson Glover and Mason Valenti each drained a pair of shots from outside the arc.
High scorer in the game was Austin’s Dempsey Glover with 25 points.
“We played pretty well and then went cold in the second half and they got hot,” coach Stuckey commented.
Howie Stuckey led the Gators (6-12) with 24 points.
Port Allegany returns to action today with a non-league makeup game at Kane.

Elk Catholic 57, Brookville 53 OT
BROOKVILLE — Elk Catholic kept its record unblemished but it took Alex Breindel’s tip-in off a missed free throw in overtime to lock down a 57-53 victory over Brookville Friday night.
The Crusaders (19-0) held a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Raiders trimmed their deficit to two at halftime, 30-28. In the third period, Brookville grabbed the lead 43-41 and Elk battled back to force overtime with the score deadlocked at 50-50.
“This is the fourth game this year that we trailed with under a minute left in regulation,” said Elk coach Aaron Straub. “We got three shots, but missed them.”
That set the stage for overtime where the Crusaders outscored the Raiders 7-3 by getting key points from Regis Wortman, Breindel, Alec Wehler and Carter Lindemuth to pull out the win.
“Anytime you can pick up a road win when you do not play your best … and run into an opponent that is fired up with a good plan and is playing well, it is a good win,” Straub pointed out
Offensively, Wortman led Elk with 15 points, while Breindel finished with 11 and Brennen Klawuhn with 10.
Elk Catholic improved to 7-0 in league play; eading the Raiders (11-8, 5-3 D-9) was Aaron Park with 17 points.
