DUBOIS — After a slow start, Bradford High’s Lady Owls are now riding a three-game win streak following Monday night’s 42-40 non-league victory over DuBois Catholic.
“It was just a great team effort and now we’ve won four of our last five games,” said Bradford coach Bob Hannon.
The Lady Owls got their usual point productions from Hannah Lary (13) and Erica Marshall (12),
but the backup help they got was also what drew praise from Hannon.
“Lary and Marshall got their usual points, and they did it without a two-point field goal,” Hannon pointed out. “All seven of their field goals were three-pointers. You won’t see that happen very often.
“They also got help from Makenzee Maley with nine points and Emily Warner with six. Those were big contributions for us. Morgan Tyger also did a great job on the boards with four blocked shots,” he added.
Bradford led by one point (8-7) at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Cardinals made up the deficit and sent the teams into their respective locker rooms deadlocked at 21-21. Bradford went back on top by one, 33-32, at the end of three periods and then held on down the stretch to improve to 5-10 overall on the season.
“They (DCC) came back and tied it at halftime,” Hannon explained. “It was a one-point game at the end of the third and it went back-and-forth in the fourth. But we got the points we needed for the win which was what we wanted to do.
“I’m really proud of how hard these girls played as a team and now they’re learning how to win close games,” he emphasized.
High scorers for the Lady Cardinals (6-10) were Ashley Wruble and Martina Swalligan with 13 points each.
Bradford returns to District 9 League action on Wednesday at St. Marys.

KANE — Kane’s Ella Marconi became the girls all-time rebounding leader on the way to a double-double that led the Lady Wolves to a 69-42 victory over Brockway on Monday.
Marconi scored a game-high 18 points, but her performance on the boards was record setting.
“Ella had 11 rebounds tonight to reach 1,000 and become our all time leader,” said Kane coach Dave Kiehl. “The old record was 1,001 and now she has 1,004 and is only the second player to reach 1,000.”
Monday night’s win was also the 10th straight for the Lady Wolves, who held a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, pushed that to 20 points at halftime and were well on the way to improving their overall record to 15-3 on the season.
Backing Marconi offensively were Hannah Buhl with 14 points and Sarri Swanson with 11.
Leading Brockway was Buttery with 15 points.
Kane returns top action on Wednesday at Ridgway.
