PORTVILLE, N.Y. — Outdoor enthusiasts are invited to “shake off the winter blues” and strap on snowshoes for the Exploring Winter hike at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pfeiffer Nature Center.
The 90-minute event will be held at Lillibridge Preserve at 1974 Lillibridge road and is free to the public.
There is no fee to borrow traditional wooden bear paw snowshoes, but as they are in limited supply participants are advised to contact Pfeiffer Nature Center to reserve a pair by Thursday. The traditional snowshoes are one size fits all and are recommended for ages 13 and up.
Organizers said the walk is for both the novice and advanced participant. If there is no snow, hikers are invited to join Pfeiffer staff and volunteers for a winter stroll among the trees in the old growth forest. The program will be canceled, however, in the event of extreme weather conditions. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
To make reservations, contact the Pfeiffer administration office at (716) 933-0187 or visit the website, www.pfeiffernaturecenter.org
