Thanks to the overwhelming response from the community, the office of the Destinations-Bradford ministry that had been damaged by flooding this week is expected to reopen Tuesday.
David Livingston, executive director of Destinations, said the 1 Main St. ministry, which helps the needy with a number of services and food, was helped with repairs of the office by a number of people.
“Destinations-Bradford will be open for our normal business hours next week,” Livingston said in a message to the Era late Friday. “We put the office back together today the best we could and will be able to start serving the Bradford area starting Tuesday during our normal business hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the pantry from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
“Everyone who came together to help us truly has been a blessing,” Livingston said.
The office sustained extreme damage when a water pipe in an upper apartment in the three-story building burst during bitter cold temperatures Monday. Water leaked and damaged the ceiling, walls, floor and office equipment in the offices, forcing the closure of the ministry for the majority of last week.
According to the Destinations-Bradford Facebook account, volunteers that helped with the cleanup effort included Michelle and Sheila Aaron-Simmons, Pastor Rob Jeffery and his wife, Joy; Mike and Donna Black; Becky Plummer; Phil Smith and his crew, Clean Extreme; and Ron Orris and the Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce. Also thanked by the ministry were the Bradford Era for publicizing the incident as well as “everyone who donated their time, hard work and prayers to assist us during our time of need.”
“You have all been a huge blessing to this ministry and we would not have been able to resume services in such a timely manner without each and every one of you,” Livingston said in the Facebook post. “God bless you all and the people of Bradford.”
