A crack in a water line on Marion Avenue Thursday had a crew busy with repairs for several hours.
Bradford City Water Authority Executive Director Steve Disney said the on-call person for the authority received a call of a possible water leak about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.
“They arrived on scene shortly after that call and verified we did have a small working leak at the address of 6 Marion Avenue,” Disney said.
The full distribution crew was deployed to the site at 7:30 a.m.
“We were able to get the leak isolated and water service was disrupted on portions of Marion Avenue, Poplin Avenue and West Washington Street for around three hours,” Disney said.
The crew found a “360-degree circumferential crack around the 8-inch cast iron water main,” he explained. “Crews installed a stainless steel clamp to repair the main.
“Customers near that location could experience cloudy or dirty water,” Disney said. “If that is the case, please allow your cold water taps to run until it clears.”
He urged water customers to pay attention to the upcoming severe weather, as temperatures are expected to drop below zero.
“Please protect your water meter from freezing,” Disney said. “If customers have had issues in the past with their personal service lines freezing, it would be a good idea to allow their cold water tap to run a small stream to prevent freezing.”
