ST. MARYS — St. Marys claimed wins in both girls and boys swim action Thursday in a face-off with Bradford. In the girls contest, the final was St. Marys 101, Bradford 81. The boys score was close, but St. Marys pulled off a 65-63 win there as well.
“We are seeing consistently good performances from all of the kids. We are happy with where they are at,” said Chelsea Schwab, Bradford coach. “They are showing their best times in the water at every meet.
“The boys had a chance to win tonight, but we were down in our numbers due to illness. We were also missing a couple girls. We are trying to get everyone healthy and ready for postseason; that is where our focus is right now.”
Bradford’s Emma Webster recorded wins in the 200 IM and 100 Back, as well as competing as part of the winning 400 Free Relay team. Also earning firsts for Bradford was Julia Moini (200 Free, 100 Butterfly, 400 Free Relay). Abbie Nuzzo and Mackenzie Lucas rounded out the winning 400 Free Relay team.
In boys swim action, Bradford’s Tyler Sortore took first in the 200 IM and 100 Back and Carl Gangloff finished first in the 200 and 100 Free. Both were part of the winning 400 Free Relay team. Meanwhile, Aiden Wright claimed first in the 500 Free and was part of the winning 400 Free Relay team as well, with Danny Fedak rounding out the relay. Bradford’s Frank Colosimo finished first in diving.
“We saw a great performance from Aiden Wright in the 500. Also, Frank Colosimo’s first in diving helped even the score in the middle of the meet,” Schwab said. “We are consistently seeing good performances from (Danny) Fedak, Grace Dalton and Alex Safron – some of the newer kids that have stepped up to the plate. We asked a lot of all of our kids, both veterans and new kids. We asked them to be in events they aren’t used to and they tried their hardest. We are really proud of that effort.”
Bradford girls fall to 1-2 on the season, while the boys fall to 0-3.
Bradford swimmers are idle until next Friday, when they host Clearfield.
