TRIVIA: We found a website called thefactsite.com that has a list of strange facts that are, well, strange.
These were too odd not to share.
“People can suffer from a psychological disorder called boanthropy that makes them believe that they are a cow. They try to live their life as a cow.”
King Nebuchadnezzar II, king of ancient Babylon, was said to have suffered from the disease. In the Book of Daniel, he “was driven from men and did eat grass as oxen.”
This next one will impact generations of action movies.
“Japan is facing a ninja shortage. There is a high demand for ‘ninja shows,’ but it is a dying tradition and companies have trouble finding properly trained ninjas.”
Here are a few food-related facts, from the same website: “The process by which bread toasts is called the Maillard Reaction.
“Even though Froot Loops are different colors, they all have exactly the same flavor.
“Japanese square watermelons are ornamental and are not edible.
“The most popular item at Walmart is bananas. They sell more bananas than any other single item they have in stock.
“When watermelons are grilled or baked, they lose the granular texture and can even be used as a meat substitute.”
And did you know that when alligators and manatees are swimming in the same area, alligators will yield the right-of-way to the manatee?
We were curious to learn more about this, so we looked up the size of a Florida manatee. The average manatee is 10 to 12 feet in length and weighs 1,500 to 1,800 pounds.
In contrast, the average size of an American alligator is about 500 pounds, with a length between 8 and 11 feet.
Manatees are related to elephants, and wouldn’t you know we have some interesting facts about elephants, too.
“Elephants make friends, bury their dead, travel for ‘funerals,’ speak to each other and show extreme intelligence.”
We’ll bring you more in future columns.
