BOLIVAR, N.Y. — For one quarter, the Bolivar-Richburg boys basketball team “did everything it wanted,” according to coach Jeff Margeson.
The Wolverines jumped out to a 9-0 lead en route to a 16-11 quarter. They’d also done a decent job of corralling Port Allegany leading scorers Howie Stuckey and Jordan Card, keeping those two at five and four points, respectively.
And then, that duo went off, particularly Stuckey.
In one of the top scoring efforts on the Big 30 boys side so far this season, Stuckey drained seven 3-pointers and poured in 39 points to guide the Gators to a 76-62 non-league triumph on Wednesday.
The Port A senior racked up 18 of those points in the second quarter, when the Gators (4-4) outscored B-R 28-13 to take control. Card finished with 22 points in the win.
“Stuckey couldn’t miss,” Margeson said. “He would pull up from anywhere; we’d have a hand in his face, too, and he’d make it. It was impressive. The referees even said that they’d never seen anything like it.”
Riley Danaher and Adam Jones both had 15 points while Hudson Evingham added 10 for the Wolverines (4-4).
“They outhustled us,” Margeson went on. “We’re going to close the book on that one.”

Elk County Catholic 59, Kane 58
KANE — Regis Wortman (26) and Alex Breindel (19) combined to score all but 14 of Elk County Catholic’s points as the Crusaders (7-0) held off a valiant upset effort from Kane on Wednesday.
Kane actually took the lead in the game, 59-58, on a 3-point from Chad Greville with less than two minutes to play. But Carter Lindemuth hit a clutch layup with 1:10 remaining to put his team up for good and provide the final points of the ballgame.
“It was a good win against a team that played very well this evening,” ECC head coach Aaron Straub said. “Kane shot it well, Greville played extremely well and very composed, and Kane kept battling back.”
Greville tied Wortman for the high scoring mark in the game with 26.
Wortman’s biggest contribution in the game came when he dropped 12 points in the third quarter to help ECC erase a two-point halftime deficit and a 10-0 run Kane went on to end the second quarter.
“When we played well tonight we looked good,” Straub added. “Got some transition baskets and our offense looked good.”
