KANE — It was really only a matter of when, and not if, for Kane’s Ella Marconi.
And on Thursday night that when came, as Kane’s superstar forward cemented her place in the school’s record books by becoming the Lady Wolves’ all-time leading scorer with another big game on both ends of the floor.
It was yet another dominant performance from Marconi, who registered 25 points, 16 rebounds and nine blocks to power Kane to a 51-42 victory over Clarion in the opening round of the Kane Christmas Tournament.
“To surpass the great players of Kaila Jamerson and then Trinity Clark this early in Ella’s senior year says alot about her hard work and career so far,” Kane coach Dave Kiehl said.
Marconi’s 25 points put her at 1,227 for her career, passing the previously held high of 1,209 from Clark that was set last season.
And while Marconi had another fantastic game, it was a battle for the Lady Wolves most of the night against Clarion.
The Lady Bobcats led by two at the half, but Kane outscored them 34-23 over the final 16 minutes to secure the win.
“A very good, learning, team-building win for us,” Kiehl said. “We didn’t have Hannah Buhl, our senior point guard, who was out with the flu.”
Kane will now face North Clarion, which won its first round game 58-37 over Eisenhower, tonight at 7:30.
