TREES: It’s the day after Christmas, time for many to take down the trees and holiday trimmings until next year.
For those of you with real trees, the Kinzua Fish and Wildlife Association have a late Christmas request — consider donating them.
The trees will be used for future projects in the reservoir for habitat.
Drop-off locations are as follows:
Former Graybill Marine on Route 321 in Kane; Paul’s Trading Post on Route 321 in Kane; in Bradford by the Department of Public Works on Holley Avenue for city residents only; in the Kane area, Glenwood Park; in Warren at Point Park and in Sheffield at Memorial Park.
Officials with the association told us how the trees will help.
“The trees are arranged in groups of nine with cement blocks (of which we also welcome any donations),” officials said. “They provide habitat for smaller fish.
“The water fluctuates from the lowering and rising and keeps any vegetation from growing in the reservoir. We add tree reefs, porcupine cribs, catfish boxes, bass boxes, pallet cribs and other structures” so the fish have a place to live.
Sounds like a good way to carry on the happiness of the holidays.
CLEANUP: We found some post-Christmas cleanup tips on a website called organized home.
1. Get one, toss two: As you put away holiday gifts, get rid of two things for each new one. Did you get a movie? Consider donating two older titles to charity. 2. Mailbox challenge: Have a bunch of shipping boxes piled up? Fill them up with items no longer used in your home and give them to charity.
3. Sort before you stow: Get rid of those lights that no longer work, or those broken ornaments.
4. Send white elephants on their way. Have a gift closet? Add those items to it. Or have a post Christmas white elephant exchange. Maybe what you consider a white elephant will be a welcome addition to a friend’s home.
