A Port Allegany man is in McKean County Jail for allegedly choking a woman at her residence in the early morning hours on Saturday.
Christopher Ballway, 28, of 208 E. Arnold Ave., is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony; strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary offense.
According to court records, state police were called to a Port Allegany residence late Friday night or early Saturday morning, arriving at 12:13 a.m. The female victim at the residence told police that Ballway had knocked on her door, and when she opened it, he pushed it all the way open and grabbed her neck with both hands, choking her. He then “tried to make (the victim) kiss him,” the records alleged.
She tried to tell him to stop, and when he did, he pushed her aside and left the residence. Police noted visible injuries to the victim at the scene, the records stated.
Ballway was arraigned Sunday before on-call District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $40,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
