SMETHPORT — James Bunce has asked for a trial on allegations that he set fire to a stolen truck that was used as the getaway car in a burglary.
Bunce, 31, appeared for a last day to plea conference before President Judge John Pavlock on Thursday in McKean County Court.
He is charged with conspiracy to commit arson, a first-degree felony; conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit risking catastrophe.
Bunce, along with two other men, are charged in a separate case in which the men broke into Stoney North Enterprises Inc. the night of June 28 to steal power equipment including chainsaws, court records stated. Records indicated the three planned to sell the equipment to make money.
The arson case against Bunce stems from alleged actions on June 29 on Songbird Road, Bradford Township, when Bunce set fire to the getaway vehicle — a 2013 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck that was reported stolen on June 25 from Houston, Pa., according to the criminal complaint.
Bunce is incarcerated in lieu of a total of $150,000 for the two cases.
