On Saturday, D9Sports.com announced the 2018 All-District 9 football awards and team selections
Clarion-Limestone junior Austin Newcomb earned the Jim Kelly Award as the District 9 Most Valuable Player. Newcomb set a D-9 single season record with 2,627 rushing yards while scoring 43 total touchdowns on the season.
Clearfield quarterback Isaac Rumery earned Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the Bison to the District 6-9 Class AAAA title. Rumery, who will attend Penn State as a preferred walk-on, accounted for 39 touchdowns (26 passing, 13 rushing), throwing for 2,526 yards and adding 554 more on the ground.
Evan Furlong of Ridgway was named Defensive Player of the Year. Despite missing several games due to injury, Furlong was the driving force on a dominant Ridgway defense that helped the Elkers win their third consecutive district title.
Other award winners included Clearfield’s Quentin Bloom (Offensive Lineman of the Year), Ridgway’s Gabe Watts (Rookie of the Year), Brockway’s Zane Puhala (Special Teams Player of the Year), and Clearfield’s Tim Janocko (Coach of the Year).
