The Freeman family was displaced after a fire destroyed their home early Thursday morning.
According to Rew Volunteer Fire Department’s Chief Todd Burkhouse, the family fortunately escaped without suffering any injuries.
Shortly before 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving day, six fire departments were dispatched to a call of a house fire at 1068 South Kendall Ave. Reports indicated the fire was located at the rear of the house.
Along with Rew, fire departments from Derrick City, Bradford Township, Lewis Run, Otto Township and Hilltop responded. Limestone, N.Y., and Eldred Township fire departments were on standby.
ne Volunteer Fire Dept. and Eldred Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. were on standby.
“The firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the rear (of the house). But there was a lot of damage; it was a total loss,” Burkhouse said.
He added that 30-35 firefighters and eight engines were on the scene for about four or five hours, and said that a fire marshal ruled the fire accidental in nature.
Burkhouse praised the Red Cross for their help and members of the community who provided firefighters with refreshments.
