After a 14-hour standoff, police arrested a Port Allegany man around 2 a.m. Saturday.
According to Kane-based state police, 40-year-old Damian Andreano was taken into custody after he allegedly threatened to burn down the 21011 U.S. Route 6, Liberty Township, residence he was in — while there were other occupants inside. Family members exited the residence after Andreano’s threats and he allegedly barricaded himself with a firearm inside the house.
Police did not indicated that Andreano needed medical treatment but did not say why. No other injuries were reported.
Law enforcement responded to the incident at 11:53 a.m. on Friday, and first responders rerouted traffic away from Route 6 for approximately 14 hours, according to a police report.
The report also stated that state police’s Special Emergency Response Team responded and found Andreano hiding in the attic. Andreano allegedly failed to comply with police commands, and officers had to use a Taser on him before he could be taken into custody. Andreano was then escorted to Bradford Regional Medical Center for medical treatment and a mental health evaluation.
Andreano was charged with two counts of terroristic threats, a third-degree felony and a first degree misdemeanor; resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor.
Andreano was not arraigned as of press time Sunday.
Assisting state police were Smethport Police Department, Port Allegany Police Department, Smethport Fire Department, Port Allegany Ambulance, Port Allegany’s Star Hose Co. #1 and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
