EMPORIUM — An Emporium man has been arrested on a number of charges including aggravated indecent assault of a child stemming from an investigation into an incident alleged to have occurred in early October.
Charles Richard Goff Jr., 25, was charged last week with felony counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault when the complainant is unconscious or unaware, and corruption of minors after an alleged encounter on Oct. 6, 2018, in the Emporium Borough.
The affidavit of probable cause on file at Magisterial District Judge Barry Brown’s office at the Cameron County Courthouse shows that Emporium Borough Police received a report from Children & Youth Services that was made to their ChildLine hotline. While a 5-year-old child was in Goff’s care overnight, it is alleged that she awoke to find her clothing had been removed and Goff was hurting her. Police allege that he then lit something and blew the smoke in the child’s face, causing the child’s mouth to feel numb and her body to feel weird, the probable cause indicated.
Goff gave alternate details of the events of that evening, but police were unable to corroborate his information when questioning other witnesses, according to the available information.
Goff was unable to post bail of $50,000 and is currently incarcerated in the McKean County Jail. Attorney information is not yet available for this case. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James L. Martin of Elk County on Oct. 22, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in Brown’s office at the Cameron County Courthouse.
