DEBATE: Remember, folks, today is the day to hear what the candidates for the 67th District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives have to say.
At 7:30 p.m., at the university room of the Frame-Westerberg Commons at Pitt-Bradford, The Era will be hosting a debate with Democratic challenger Maryanne Cole and Republican incumbent Martin Causer.
The candidates will each have a chance to give opening and closing statements, and will be asked questions selected by The Era’s editors and publisher.
And two weeks from today will be the general election. Get out and vote.
Need some reasons to vote? We’ll give you a few.
So you can complain with integrity. If one doesn’t participate in the process, one’s complaints cannot be taken seriously.
As John Locke said, voting is the natural right of the self governed.
As Abraham Lincoln said, “The ballot is stronger than the bullet.”
Less than half of all registered voters cast ballots in midterm elections. In the May primary, just 17.76 percent of all registered voters in McKean County turned out. Statewide, it was 18 percent.
CELEBRATE: While all of October is set aside for breast cancer awareness and disability awareness, there are several days which mark other celebrations.
Today, for example, is National Boston Cream Pie Day. Yum. Seems like a good thing to celebrate.
It is also National TV Talk Show Host Day, celebrated this day because it’s Johnny Carson’s birthday. The King of Late Night was born Oct. 23, 1925. The funny man died in 2005.
Today is also the day the swallows depart from San Juan Capistrano. “The famous cliff swallows of San Juan Capistrano leave town every year in a swirling mass near the Day of San Juan headed for their winter vacation spot 6,000 miles south in Goya, Corrientes, Argentina,” says the website of the National Day Calendar.
