A water main break early Friday left several customers in East Bradford without water until noon.
Bradford City Water Authority Executive Director Steve Disney reported, “At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Friday, water authority on-call personnel received notice that there was a water main break at the intersection of Welch Avenue and East Main Street. Water Authority crew members arrived on scene shortly after 2 a.m., confirmed a large leak and started the process of gaining an isolated shut down by closing gate valves outside of the affected area.”
After the water was shut off, crews “were then tasked with pinpointing the exact location of the break so that an excavation could take place. Crews used leak correlating software and systems to locate the exact excavation point.”
The break was in a 6-inch water main that runs along Welch Avenue.
Disney said, “The original affected areas without water service included Welch Avenue, portions of Burnside Avenue, and East Main Street between Penn Avenue and the East Main intersection with South Kendall.
“However, crews were able to repair a tipped gate box on Welch Avenue which allowed them to further isolate the break and permitted East Main Street to be turned back on,” he added. “All affected areas were back in service by noon.”
Disney said prompt action by the authority crew meant a boil-water advisory was not necessary.
He reminded customers that could experience dirty water, to then allow their cold water taps to run, in order to clear their line.
