DUKE CENTER — At the monthly meeting of the Otto Township Cemetery Association Thursday evening, officers and residents collaborated in an initial effort to determine the layouts of the two cemeteries.
Due to both the oldness of the cemeteries and sketchy or nonexistent records, there is uncertainty as to the availability of lots. Old, incomplete maps, issued deeds, and a winter-long effort by the association and residents will hopefully produce an accurate database of records, resulting in both cemeteries’ being serviceable.
Several donations have been received and incorporation status has been attained, green-lighting the association’s proposed projects to improve the appearances and maintenance of the cemeteries. These projects will be prioritized and initiated accordingly, beginning in the spring of next year.
Both properties will be surveyed and boundaries will be marked. Routine maintenance will continue, weather permitting, and tree removal and trimming will be done this fall.
Anyone with information that would help in mapping of either cemetery should contact association president Sharon Schwab at 558-4973. Monetary donations should be sent to treasurer Patty Barton, 1458 Looker Mtn. Trail, Rixford.
The association’s next meeting, at the Duke Center United Methodist Church, will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 13th.
