WASHINGTON — Following the confirmation of Judge Chad Kenney and Peter Phipps to the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, respectively, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Bob Casey, D-Pa., lauded the decision.
“I am pleased that the Senate confirmed Judge Chad Kenney and Peter Phipps to the federal bench,” said Toomey. “During his years of public service, Judge Kenney has proven himself to be an independent and fair jurist who has served the people of Delaware County well. Judge Kenney will make a terrific addition to Pennsylvania’s Eastern District bench and I congratulate him.
He continued, “I also congratulate Peter Phipps on his confirmation to serve as a judge for Pennsylvania’s Western District. Mr. Phipps has extensive private and public sector experience, having worked as a litigator and as an attorney at the Department of Justice. I have no doubt that he will serve the Western District with integrity and fairness.”
Casey agreed.
“I’m pleased to see these confirmations, and I am confident that Chad Kenney and Peter Phipps will faithfully serve the people of Pennsylvania,” said Casey. “Judge Kenney’s years of service on the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas and Mr. Phipps’s trial experience at the Department of Justice will serve them well on the Federal bench.”
Since Toomey joined the Senate in 2011, Toomey and Casey have worked together, in a bipartisan fashion, to fill vacancies on the federal bench in Pennsylvania. Together they have vetted, recommended, and confirmed 18 Federal District Court Judges for Pennsylvania. Only two states — California and New York — have had more district court judges confirmed to their federal benches during this time.
