DUBOIS — Both Bradford High golf teams placed third at Thursday’s PIAA West Team Golf Regionals at Treasure Lake Silver Course.
The Lady Owls finished with a team score of 337, as Elyse Godding shot an 83 and Kate Huber scored 96, with Adrienne Angell also competing.
“I was very impressed with Elyse’s performance,” Lady Owls coach Judy Abbey said. “The conditions were deplorable at times. It was just a miserable day to play golf. Third in the West, that’s a good result.”
As District 9 Champion, Huber will be competing at Regionals on Monday at Toms Run.
“Kate had a rough day today, but she has one more chance to move on to the next level.
“Elyse and Kate have both had great seasons. They can be proud of their play this year. I think they’re the first pair of girls I’ve had that averaged under a 40 for nine holes for the year, and that puts them up with state-level players.”
On the boys side, the Owls shot a 362, with Joe Gorse and Tommy Anderson leading the way with matching scores of 88. Also competing for Bradford were Joey Frigo (93), Spencer Cornelius (93), and A.J. Gorse (111).
“We were going up against Cathedral Prep, which is one of the top five teams in the state,” Bradford coach Travis Faulkner said. “They’re a very impressive team.
“The guys had to play from the blue tees, which is 400 yards longer than usual. For the conditions and the length of the course, they did really well. These scores were better than they were earlier in the season, so I’m happy with how they played.”
The Bradford boys will face Punxsutawney on Monday at Pine Acres Country Club for the Allegheny Mountain League Championship.
Erie Cathedral Prep were the AAA Boys Champions with a score of 314. North East won the AA title with a score of 312. Erie McDowell, meanwhile, won the Girls AAA title with a 263.
