ST. MARYS — Bradford’s Kate Huber won the District 9 Class AAA Girls Individual Golf Championship on Monday at a soggy Bavarian Hills Golf Course.
Huber shot a 79 to earn the title and a spot in the PIAA West Regional Qualifier at Tom’s Run Golf Resort in Blairsville on Monday, Oct. 15. Huber edged teammate Elyse Godding by one shot, as the two-time defending District Champion shot an 80.
It was a bittersweet moment for Bradford coach Judy Abbey, as only one spot was available at the West Regional.
“It’s hard to watch one of those girls not qualify for Regionals,” Abbey said. “This was Kate’s first year to qualify. I’m very proud of her; she’s played well all year. Both Kate and Elyse have. It’s a tough situation when you can only send one of them to Regionals.”
With a combined team score of 299 from its best three golfers, Bradford earns a spot at the Class AAA Girls Team West Regional Qualifier at Treasure Lake. From there, the Owls will have a chance to advance to the PIAA Team Championships on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
“I’m excited that we were able to go to DuBois as a team,” Abbey said.
“This was a great way to end the season for my girls. I’m proud of all five girls I had this year.”
Elsewhere, Punxsutawney won the Class AA Team Championship with a score of 308. The Lady Chucks were led by Individual Championship Winner Brianna Hoover, who shot a winning score of 96.
Joining Hoover at Regionals will be Hailey Oknefski of Kane, who shot a 98.
