On Sunday, residents are invited to join representatives of the Friends of Lyman Run for a short hike along Daggett Run and the shore of Lyman Lake. Participants are asked to meet 1p.m. at the Schott pavilion dressed for a hike. Some places may be wet. The hike will be held rain or shine unless weather is severe. The group will identify plants that can be eaten, drunk, used for medicine or to start fires or be made into baskets and cordage. A few of the covered species will include coltsfoot, milkweed, dogbane, sumac and cat-tails. During the hike, participants will collect materials and use these to make cordage following the hike. Demonstration and hands-on instruction will be provided. This is a free program; prior registration is not required and suitable for all family members except the very young. Hike difficulty is rated easy.
