DUKE CENTER — Offense hasn’t been an issue for Otto-Eldred in 2018, and the Terrors scored another 34 points on Saturday night. Unfortunately, that wasn’t nearly enough against a similarly high-powered Clarion-Limestone team that put a school record number of points in a 74-34 victory.
Leading the way for the Lions (5-1) was do-everything star Austin Newcomb. The junior scored five touchdowns, four of them on runs of eight, nine, 14, and eight yards, and a fifth on a 76-yard kickoff return. Newcomb also did damage on defense with 10 tackles, an interception, forced fumble, and fumble recovery.
Ayden Wiles also had a huge day for C-L, finishing with 175 yards on 18 carries and four touchdowns of his own.
Cole Sebastian led the Terrors’ offense with 262 passing yards, four touchdowns and an interception. His older brother Chase Sebastian caught two of those scores, finishing with 57 yards on seven catches. Ethan Smith also hauled in two touchdowns while Cameron Magee added a 26-yard rushing TD.
The scoring came early and often, with the Lions going into halftime with a 44-28 advantage. O-E cut the deficit to 44-34 to begin the second half on one of Chase Sebastian’s touchdown catches.
But Clarion-Limestone would go on to score 30 unanswered points and run away with the ‘W’. The Lions finished the game with a whopping 593 yards of offense, 477 of those coming on the ground.
The Terrors suffered a pair of big losses in the game, as both Magee and Chris Connelly went down with injuries. The loss of two of his team’s leaders was a huge blow according to Otto coach Troy Cook.
“Those are two of our main guys on both sides of the ball,” Cook said. “We had to plug some younger guys in on offensively, but we didn’t really have anybody to take their place and it definitely showed.”
The Terrors — who fall to 3-3 on the season — now face a hugely important contest this Friday against North Tier rival Coudersport (4-2) in a matchup with big time playoff seeding implications.
