COUDERSPORT — Port Allegany piled up some impressive stats on the way to a three-set (25-22, 25-19, 25-7) sweep of Coudersport in their North Tier League volleyball match on Thursday.
The win also swept the home-and-home series between the two teams and kept the Lady Gators unbeaten at 9-0 in the NTL.
“You can tell by all the noise on the bus that this was a big win,” said Port Allegany coach Pam Terrette. “We haven’t beaten Coudy on their floor in more than six years ….we can’t even find records for when it was. Now this year we’ve got the sweep.”
Leading the Gators were Kalyn Naylor who served up 22 points, 17 of them in a row, plus 6 kills and 3 blocks; Jenna Sprankle with 26 assists and 12 digs; Erin Stauffer with 6 kills and 14 digs; Kierra Keck with 6 kills and 2 blocks; Kayla Pesock with 6 kills and 2 blocks, and Maleah Daniels with 6 kills.
“We spread the ball around evenly tonight,” Terrette pointed out. “We had five hitters with at least six kills. Tonight was a total team effort.”
Leading the Lady Falcons (6-3 NTL, 6-4 overall) were Mikayla Kavounas with 16 assists, Shaelyn Black with 2 aces, 3 blocks and 7 kills; Dana Dubots with 5 kills and Hope Daisley with 5 aces.
“We did not play particularly well tonight,” said Coudy coach Brian Green. “Port played outstanding and took it right to us.”
Port Allegany (10-2 overall) hosts Cameron County on Tuesday.
Cameron County 3, Oswayo Valley 0
EMPORIUM — Cameron County improved its North Tier League volleyball record to 6-3 with a three-set (25-22, 25-9, 25-20) sweep of Osway Valley on Thursday.
Leading the Lady Red Raiders were Morgan Lorenzo with 5 aces and 9 kills; Kaelee Bresslin with 5 kills, Kaitlyn Burgett with 6 digs and Reggie Goodrow with 11 assists
Cameron County returns to action Tuesday at Port Allegany.
Smethport 3, Northern Potter 1
SMETHPORT — Willow Lapp’s 17 digs and eight aces powered the Lady Hubbers to a four-set (25-20, 12-25, 25-21, 25-23) victory over Northern Potter on Thursday.
Smethport (3-6, 3-6) were also led by Mykayla Deyarmin (nine assists, eight kills, five aces), Alexis Shall (eight kills, five blocks, one ace) and Mattelle Neely (five kills, two aces, two assists).
“This is a rebuilding year for us, still a nice conquer to get this win,” Smethport coach Terri Spittler said. “I’m exciting to see how the girls are playing and hopefully things go up from here.”
Northern Potter fell to 1-9 with the loss.
Mirissa Bliss (11 assists, nine digs, four aces, four kills), Courtney Martin (eight aces, four kills, three digs) and Savanna Herring (eight kills) paced the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Hubbers return to the court next Tuesday against Galeton.
Otto-Eldred 3, Galeton 2
DUKE CENTER — The Otto-Eldred Lady Terrors’ motto this season is “Fight for IT” and that’s just what they did Thursday night.
Trailing by two sets (15-25 and 19-25), the Lady Terrors stormed back to win the final three sets (26-24, 25-22, 15-9) to defeat visiting Galeton in their North Tier League volleyball match.
“It was a great comeback,” said O-E coach Donna Veilleux. “In the third set we started passing better and Reilly (Raught) came alive with her hitting.”
Raught had a solid performance with 20 kills, 2 blocks, 21 digs, 4 service points and 2 aces.
Backing her were Jade Spinney with 9 kills, 1 block and 26 digs; Emmalee Sheeler with 17 assists, 6 service points and 3 aces, and Morgan Dalton with 20 digs, 5 service points and 2 aces.
With the win O-E improved to 8-2 in the NTL, good for second place, and 9-3 overall. The Lady Terrors travel to Austin next Tuesday.
