Assault charges against Bradford man bound to court
A Bradford man who faces allegations that he hit another man in the face with a brick had charges against him bound to McKean County Court.
Daniel L. Hazzard, 29, of 12 S. Center St., had a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Todd on two counts of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony and a second-degree felony; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; and summary public drunkenness.
According to court records, at about 2 p.m. Nov. 6, 2016, two police officers saw Hazzard in a parking lot near a bar. When patrons began to leave, the officers saw Hazzard walk up behind Jeremy L. Hatch and hit him in the head when Hatch wasn’t paying attention, the records allege.
Officers immediately arrested Hazzard, who was too intoxicated to speak to them, the records stated. Police learned that he had struck Hatch in the face with a brick, which was on the ground next to Hatch, who was unconscious.
Hatch suffered injuries in the assault, including split upper and lower lips, a lost tooth and a loose tooth and a fractured foot, police said.
Hazzard remains in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Bradford man waives hearing in alleged bar assault
A Bradford man waived a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Todd for his alleged role in a bar fight.
Chad A. Mahaney, 26, of 142 Garlock Hollow, is charged with two counts of conspiracy-aggravated assault, a first-degree felony and a second-degree felony; two counts of conspiracy-simple assault and simple assault, all second-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, on July 5, a man approached Brian Ubrey in the Lighter Side bar, provoking him into a fight. Mahaney allegedly hit Ubrey in the head, and Ubrey fell to the floor.
The complaint said Mahaney and three other men jumped Ubrey and were punching him. Patrons broke up the fight.
As Ubrey went to leave, one of the men struck Ubrey, who fell to the ground, then two men and Mahaney began punching and kicking him, the complaint stated. Ubrey suffered fractures to the left orbital and left sinus and was treated at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Mahaney is free, having posted $10,000 bail.
Bradford man arrested on assault allegations
A Bradford man is facing allegations he dragged a woman with his car during an argument.
Timothy M. McCommons, 45, of 118 Williams St., was arraigned early Tuesday morning before District Judge Richard Luther on charges of recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, both second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment, a summary charge.
According to the criminal complaint, at 9:52 p.m. Monday, Bradford City Police were dispatched to McCommons’ residence for a report of a domestic dispute. The responding officer parked his patrol car on Williams Street, got out and could hear the sound of tires squealing, and engine revving, then screaming.
The officer saw McCommons pulling out of the driveway in a sedan as he could hear a female screaming from the back of the driveway near the garage.
The woman said she was arguing with her ex-boyfriend — McCommons — about the internet at the house, and he took her computer and tried to leave. She was trying to get the computer when McCommons began to pull away in his car, dragging her, the complaint stated.
McCommons told police he took her computer as “collateral” until she gives him a phone for which he pays the bill; he said she started to push him, and he went to leave to diffuse the situation, the complaint stated.
McCommons said she was pushing him while he was in his car; he explained he had a foot on the clutch and the other on the gas pedal, and his foot slid off the clutch. He wasn’t sure why his foot slid — perhaps when she pushed him, and the car began to move forward, court records indicated.
The car did not run over her, but she suffered road rash on her leg when the car moved, the complaint stated.
McCommons is free on $10,000 unsecured bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court Oct. 4.
Criminal charges withdrawn, man pleads to summary
A Bradford man who was accused in August of making threats against three people had the case dropped to one summary count of harassment.
Tyler L. Prescott, 26, appeared Wednesday for a preliminary hearing that had been scheduled before District Judge Richard Luther.
In total, three charges of terroristic threats and two charges of harassment were withdrawn, court records indicate. He must pay fines and court costs for the summary harassment charge.
