Dozens of cross country runners were in action on Tuesday for the North Tier Mega Meet.
Smethport dominated the proceedings, placing 1-2-3 individually and defeating Bradford 18-37 and Otto-Eldred 15-50 in the process. The Owls defeated the Terrors 15-50.
Darion Gregory took home first place with a winning time of 17:11. He was followed by teammates Christian Tanner (second in 17:27) and Jordan Pavlock (third in 18:14).
“I think this is the first time we’ve won this event,” Smethport coach Bill Stevens said. “We ran very well as a team, especially considering the weather.”
Bradford’s Tyler Kraft finished fourth with a time of 18:22. Smethport’s Eric Szarowicz rounded out the top five with a time of 18:38.
The Owls had six other runners finish in the top 15: Ryan Cottillion (seventh, 18:53), Gabe Mitchell (ninth, 19:23), Hunter Fox (10th, 19:33), Aiden Wright (11th, 19:34), Ian Paterniti (12th, 19:39), and Quentin Minard (13th, 19:44).
“Smethport came to run,” Bradford coach Tom Tessena said. “It’s the first time they’ve ever beaten us here. They did a fantastic job.
“We didn’t run quite as well as we did at our Invitational, but we had a couple guys have pretty good days. Ryan Cottillion ran pretty solid, as did Aiden Wright, Ian Paterniti, and Quentin Minard.”
Also running for Bradford were David Allen (17th, 20:09), Devin Benson (20th, 20:53), Ethan Hollamby (23rd, 21:10), Steve Morgan (27th, 21:18), and Frank Colosimo (40th, 23:49).
In the junior high race, Bradford’s Leo Paterniti came in first with a time of 10:22. Coudersport’s Kevin Sherry was second in 10:28, while Logan Maholic of Otto-Eldred ran third in 10:57.
Bradford will be back in action on Oct. 6 at the Ridgway Invitational.
