Bethany Bednez and Bri Keller were honored during Senior Night during the Northern Tier Mega meet hosted by Bradford. Amanda Ford of Northern Potter was the overall winner in 21:10. There were no team scores.
Bradford’s Hannah Lary was second in a time of 21:16.
“Hannah ran a great race,” Bradford coach Mark Kelley said. “She held the lead and really raced Smethport’s top runner Jenna Gregory for the majority of the race. Northern Potter’s Ford overtook Lary in the third mile for the victory.
“This was one of Hannah’s fastest times ever and the conditions were less than ideal. With a month left in the season, she is starting to run her best at the right time.”
Bethany Bednez was fourth in a time of 23:00.
“Bethany got stuck in the middle of the race with no one to race with. She had a hard race on Saturday and that is a tough turnaround. Bethany has been a six-year member of the cross-country team and has had quite a career as a Bradford Owl. She has been to the state meet twice and is the fifth-fastest freshman. With a few more weeks left, Bethany will have her best races of the season.”
Alex Safran was 10th in 27:51.
“Alex followed up Saturday’s meet with another great race. She has improved steadily since the beginning of the year.”
Bri Keller was 12th in 31:56.
“Bri has been a member of the cross-country team for five years. She has been a hard worker for all of those years and has been a joy to have on the team.”
The Lady Owls Junior high team defeated Smethport 21-34 and Otto-Eldred 16-46 to finish a perfect season at 6-0.
Korie Dixon was second in a time of 11:06, Caitlyn Taylor was third in 11:07 and Aubrey Cruz was fifth in 11:15.
“These three girls ran terrific. They have steadily improved all season but to have the top three separated by nine seconds is fantastic.”
Elisa Hayden was 7th in 11:51.
“This was Elisa’s best time on the GGB course on her last time running it.”
Sophie Cornelius was 12th in 12:33, Mallory Whitlow was 18th in 13:50, Brynn Haviland was 20th in 14:08, Keira Cleveland was 24th in 15:00, and Kaylee Dennison was 28th in 16:53.
“All of these girls have improved tremendously since the first time we ran this course back in August. They have worked hard all year and I’m very proud of them for finishing the season unbeaten. With three more invitationals left, we are going to run hard to get a few more team trophies.”
The Lady Owls return to action on Oct. 6 at the Ridgway Invitational.
