Just in time for McKean County’s signature autumn foliage to display its colors, the Knox Kane Rail Trail will officially open Oct. 19 in the afternoon — the time has not yet been set.
After explaining that trail project supporters raised more than $1 million thanks to the awarding of grants and donations, Carolyn Stroup, president of Mount Jewett to Kinzua Bridge (MJ2KB) Trail Club, has high expectations for the trail.
“I’ll tell you what, it better look like a million dollars,” Stroup said with a laugh.
She said the entire length of the trail will run from Kinzua Bridge State Park to Mount Jewett, but the trail club is developing a section of the trail that runs between Mount Jewett and Lantz Corners.
“Between Kinzua Bridge State Park and the section we’re adding on, (the trail) will have pedestrian, biking, equestrian and snowmobile use,” Stroup added.
She also noted that ATVs and off-road vehicles are prohibited from the trail. Assistive devices, such as motorized wheelchairs, are allowed.
There will be a reception at the Mount Jewett fire hall after the ribbon cutting. The ribbon cutting will take place at the end of Center Street, on the rail trail.
“There will be dignitaries from PennDOT, Harrisburg, DCNR officials; anyone involved with getting the grant,” Stroup said.
