The driver of a vehicle struck by another in a crash on U.S. Route 219 near Mead Run Sept. 5 died Thursday.
McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer announced Thursday morning that Stanley “Guy” Austin, 53, of Bradford, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Buffalo, N.Y.
According to Shaffer and Kane-based state police, at 8:36 p.m. Sept. 5, a car driven by Marc Nuzzo of Kane was traveling south on Route 219 when it entered the northbound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by Austin.
Austin and five passengers — a 48-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, a 50-year-old woman and two 15-year-old girls — were aided by passing motorists in escaping their vehicle, which caught fire after the crash.
Shaffer said her office and the state police have been in contact with Austin’s family, the hospital and the medical examiner’s office throughout this morning. She did not indicate whether charges would be filed as a result of the crash, saying only that the investigation is still underway.
The investigation into the crash continues. A Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist with the Pennsylvania State Police is involved in the investigation.
