COUDERSPORT — A Wyano man was killed in a Tuesday evening all-terrain vehicle crash near Burt Street in Ulysses Borough.
Sweden Township Police report that Gary Cykrot, 65, was killed when his ATV went into a ditch and overturned on top of him.
Police were dispatched, along with the Ulysses Fire Department and EMS and Harrison Township Fire and Medics, to an ATV crash near Burt and Academy streets. When first responders arrived, they found a male in a ditch with his ATV on top of him. Witnesses were attempting to tend to the man when EMS arrived, police said.
They moved the ATV and removed the man from the ditch, and immediately began emergency medical treatment. An air medical helicopter was requested, but before it could arrive, the man “went into traumatic arrest,” police said.
“Even with the almost immediate care and the best of efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” police said. “The other individual he was riding with fled the area and made no calls for help.”
Police said he was not identified.
State police in Belle Vernon notified Cykrot’s family.
Police said Cykrot was not wearing a helmet, and the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Assisting at the scene were Ulysses Fire and EMS, Harrison Township Fire, Coudersport medics and Assistant Deputy Coroner Ken Wingo.
The ATV was towed from the scene.
